MICROGREENS Beetroot ‘Bull’s Blood’ Seeds

‘Bull’s Blood’ beetroot is a striking variety with deep red stems and leaves. It’s loved for its bold colour and earthy flavour, making it a favourite for microgreens and baby leaf mixes. When grown as microgreens, the leaves are tender with a slightly sweet, beet-like taste that pairs well with salads, sandwiches, and garnishes. This variety has been specially selected for its reliable dark red colour, even under indoor growing conditions.

Beet microgreens are not only visually appealing but also rich in nutrients. They are a good source of antioxidants, iron, magnesium, and vitamins A, C, and K. ‘Bull’s Blood’ microgreens add vibrant colour and a nutritional boost to your meals.

How to Grow Bull’s Blood Beetroot (Microgreens)

  • Sow rate: 28 – 40 grams per 10 x 20″ growing tray
  • Pre-soak: Soak seeds in water for 6 – 8 hours before sowing to improve germination
  • Growing medium: Soil only (not suitable for hydroponic pads or mats)
  • Tray setup: Fill tray with 2 – 3 cm of seed-raising soil. Flatten and moisten the surface.
  • Sowing: Scatter soaked seeds evenly across the surface and cover with a thin layer of soil (important for even germination and easy dehulling)
  • Germination: Cover with an empty tray or lid to block light. Store in a dark, well-ventilated place.
  • Watering: Mist or water lightly 1 – 2 times daily. Keep covered for 6 – 8 days.
  • Light exposure: Once seeds have sprouted and begun pushing against the lid, remove the cover and move to a bright location or under grow lights
  • Harvest: Ready in 10 – 14 days. Harvest when the first true leaves appear. Cut 1 – 2 cm above the soil line using scissors.
  • Difficulty level: Medium – requires attention to moisture and good airflow

Tip: Ensure good airflow around your growing trays to prevent mould, and avoid overwatering once leaves emerge. Harvest just before use for the best flavour and texture.
