How to Grow Onion Microgreens
- Sow Rate: 5 – 7 grams per small punnet-sized growing tray.
- Pre-Soak: No pre-soaking required.
- Growing Medium: Can be grown in soil or hydroponically.
- Temperature: Ideal growing temperature is around 18 – 22°C for optimal growth.
- Germination Time: 10 – 14 days
- Watering: Keep the soil moist but avoid waterlogging. Ensure adequate moisture throughout the growing period.
Growing Instructions for Soil:
- Add 3-4 cm of soil to your growing tray and level it evenly.
- Sprinkle the seeds evenly across the surface of the soil and lightly water.
- Place the tray in a location with indirect light and ensure consistent moisture for successful germination.
Harvest:
- Harvest time is approximately 14 – 21 days after sowing, once the microgreens reach around 5 – 7 cm in height. Cut the microgreens just above the soil line.
Growing Instructions for Onion Sprouting Seeds
- Pre-Soak: Soak the seeds in water for 4 – 6 hours before sprouting.
- Rinse and Drain: After soaking, rinse the seeds thoroughly and drain. Place them in a sprouting jar or tray.
- Rinsing Frequency: Rinse and drain the seeds 2 – 3 times daily to keep them moist and prevent mold growth.
- Light: Keep the sprouting jar or tray in indirect light. Once the sprouts start to grow, move them to a brighter spot to encourage greening.
- Temperature: Ideal sprouting temperature is 18 – 22°C.
- Harvest Time: Onion sprouts will be ready to harvest in 7 – 10 days, depending on the desired length. Harvest when sprouts are around 5 – 7 cm long.
- Storage: After harvesting, rinse the sprouts one last time and store them in the fridge. Use within 5 – 7 days for best freshness.
