MICROGREEN ‘Onion’ Seeds
Botanical Name: Allium cepa
Onion microgreens are slow to grow but packed with reward. Their fine green shoots have a mild onion flavour with a touch of sweetness, making them perfect for salads, sandwiches, wraps, and garnishes. These greens are rich in vitamins A, C, and calcium, offering both taste and nutrition in every bite.

How to Grow Onion Microgreens
- Sow Rate: 5–7 grams per small punnet-sized tray.
- Pre-Soak: Not required for microgreens.
- Medium: Grows well in soil or hydroponically.
- Ideal Temperature: 18–22°C
- Germination: Takes 10–14 days to sprout.
- Watering: Keep soil moist, but not soggy. Ensure airflow to avoid mould.
Soil Growing Instructions
- Fill a tray with 3–4 cm of organic soil or coir and level it out.
- Sprinkle seeds evenly across the surface and mist lightly with water.
- Cover the tray with another tray to create darkness for germination.
- Place in a well-ventilated area out of direct sun. Keep moist with a mist spray.
Harvest
- Harvest after 14–21 days when shoots are around 5–7 cm tall.
- Use clean scissors to cut just above the soil line.
Sprouting Onion Seeds (Jar or Tray Method)
- Pre-Soak: Soak for 4–6 hours.
- Drain & Rinse: After soaking, rinse seeds and place in a sprouting jar or tray.
- Rinse Frequency: 2–3 times daily to keep seeds fresh and hydrated.
- Light: Keep in low light for first few days. Move to brighter spot once sprouted.
- Temperature: Maintain 18–22°C for best results.
- Harvest: Sprouts are ready in 7–10 days. Harvest when 5–7 cm long.
- Storage: Store in the fridge and use within 5–7 days for freshness.
