Parsley
Parsley is a staple herb, native to the Mediterranean region. It grows up to 30 cm height and can be grown in containers or used as an edging for garden beds. This popular herb makes an attractive addition to a cottage garden. In cooler and temperate climates, it is grown as a biennial. As a biennial, it will produce leaves in the first year and flowers in the second. In subtropical and tropical regions, it is grown as an annual plant – grown for its leaves and not flowers. It often struggles in heat, humidity and wet seasons. Germination is best at 12 – 25°C soil temperature. In a temperate climate, sow late September – December. In a subtropical climate, sow early spring or autumn. In the tropics, sow April – August. Germination can be slow, taking 4 – 6 weeks. Soak the seed overnight to help speed up germination. Days to harvest: Approximately 75 days.
