Squash ‘Bennings Green Tint’ Vegetable Seeds

Botanical Name: Cucurbita pepo

Bennings Green Tint is an heirloom variety dating back to 1914. It is a patty-pan squash with scalloped edges and pretty pale-green fruit. The flesh is white and tender with a fine-grained texture and very good flavor. Pick when young (5 – 7.5 cm in diameter); larger fruit can be stuffed. It grows as a tidy, productive bush.

Sow When:

  • Temperate: Spring to early summer
  • Subtropical: All year if frost-free
  • Tropical: Dry season

Germination: 7 – 10 days

Depth: 1.5 – 2 cm deep

Position: Full sun

Sow Where: Direct into garden bed, keep soil moist

Soil Type: Fertile, well-drained soil, pH 6 – 7.5; add plenty of compost

Rows: Space ‘hills’ 1 m apart

Spacing: Sow 3-6 seeds and thin to the 2-3 strongest

Harvest: 55 – 63 days
