Australian Native Flower Bee & Pollinator Seed Mix

Botanical name: Mixed Australian native species

Bring colour and life to your garden with our Australian Native Flower Bee & Pollinator Seed Mix. Featuring colourful daisies, papery everlastings, golden Billy Buttons and Purple Flag, this blend creates an inviting flowering habitat for bees and other visiting insects.

Daisies and everlastings form the heart of the mix, providing open flower heads where insects can forage. Plant beside vegetable gardens, in sunny borders or in dedicated flower beds to add native floral diversity to your growing space.

The blend combines annual flowers for seasonal colour with perennial species for longer-term interest. Flowering and establishment vary between species, giving the planting a changing appearance as it develops.

What’s Inside?

  • Mixed Strawflower (Xerochrysum bracteatum): Colourful, papery flower heads that add height and texture to the display.
  • White Everlasting (Rhodanthe chlorocephala ssp. rosea, white-flowered form): White paper daisies for attractive seasonal displays.
  • Pink Cluster Everlasting (Schoenia cassiniana): Clusters of pink everlasting flowers that complement the larger strawflowers.
  • Swan River Daisy (Brachyscome iberidifolia): Delicate daisy flowers on compact, branching plants.
  • Purple Flag (Patersonia occidentalis): A perennial native iris with strappy foliage and purple flowers.
  • Billy Buttons (Pycnosorus globosus): Golden, rounded flower heads on upright stems for contrast and perennial interest.

Growing Instructions:

  • Preparation: Remove weeds and prepare a fine, well-drained soil surface. Sow into bare soil rather than established lawn or thick mulch.
  • Sowing: Broadcast evenly over prepared soil. Mix seeds with dry sand immediately before sowing to help distribute them, stirring regularly as you work.
  • Planting depth: Surface sow, press gently into the soil and rake in very lightly. Avoid burying the small seeds deeply.
  • Season: Autumn is generally preferred for the everlasting component. In cooler districts, spring sowing may also suit some species. In subtropical regions, favour the cooler months and avoid extreme heat or prolonged wet conditions.
  • Germination: Emergence varies between species. Some annual daisies may appear within 1–3 weeks, while other components can take longer and emerge unevenly.
  • Watering: Keep the soil surface consistently moist during germination. Continue watering during establishment, then adjust to rainfall, soil conditions and plant needs.
  • Position: Full sun is recommended for the best flowering display.
  • Soil: Well-drained soil. Avoid waterlogged sites.
  • Maintenance: Control weeds while seedlings establish. Thin crowded seedlings where necessary to give developing plants room to grow.
  • Planting locations: Sunny garden beds, vegetable garden edges, native cottage gardens and dedicated pollinator patches.

Flowering time: Some annual everlastings may begin flowering approximately 10–12 weeks after sowing under suitable conditions. Other species take longer, and perennial components may need an additional growing season before flowering. Timing depends on sowing season, climate and growing conditions.

Pack sizes: Approximately 1,000, 10,000 or 100,000 seeds. Seed counts are approximate. The balance of flowering plants will vary with germination and establishment conditions.

Allow some flowers to set seed if you would like to encourage natural reseeding. Combine the mix with other locally suitable native plants to provide a wider range of flowering times and habitat.

Storage:

Store seeds in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keep the packet sealed and protected from moisture until sowing.

Recommended for:

Bee and pollinator gardens, native flower beds, vegetable garden borders, schools, community gardens and sunny habitat plantings. Select a site suited to the species in the blend; results will vary across Australian climates.
