How to Grow Organic Wheatgrass Microgreens
- Soak: Soak 1 cup of seeds in clean water for 6–10 hours (adjust time based on your climate).
- Sprout: Rinse thoroughly and drain for 8–12 hours using a sprouting jar, hemp sprouting bag, or mesh sprouter.
- Repeat: Continue rinsing and draining every 8–12 hours until the seeds grow small white roots about 5 mm long.
- Prepare Tray: Line a shallow tray with butcher’s paper. Add 2–3 cm of organic soil mixed with compost or a soil improver like volcanic rock dust.
- Sow: Spread seeds evenly over the soil. Avoid overlapping too much, as this can cause mould.
- Water and Cover: Mist lightly with water and cover with damp paper towels or a hessian cloth.
- Germination: Place the tray in a dark, well-ventilated area. Mist twice daily until the shoots reach about 2–3 cm.
- Light Exposure: Remove the cover and move the tray to indirect sunlight. Keep watering twice a day.
- Harvest: When your wheatgrass is about 7–10 cm tall (3–4 inches), cut it 1 cm above the soil level using clean scissors.
