Beetroot ‘Detroit Red’ Vegetable Seeds

Botanical Name: Beta vulgaris

High yielding globe-shaped deep crimson root with smooth skin, tops useful as greens, attractive dark green foliage with red veins. Eat raw, steamed or as soup; excellent flavour.

Sow When:

  • Germinate best at 10 – 28°C soil temp.
  • Temperate: Spring, summer, autumn
  • Subtropical: All year round, avoid very hot weather
  • Tropical: March – July

Germination:

  • 5 – 10 days
  • Depth: 12 mm deep; soak seeds in warm water for 1 – 2 hours before planting

Position: Full sun

Sow Where: Direct into the garden bed

Soil Type: Fertile, well-drained; add compost, pH 6.5 – 7.5; keep well supplied with water and mulch
