HERB ‘Sage’ Culinary Herb Seeds

Botanical Name: Salvia officinalis

Quantity: 10 grams

Sage is a hardy, drought-tolerant perennial herb known for its strong, earthy flavor and medicinal properties. A favorite in culinary gardens, sage is commonly used to season meats, sauces, and stuffing. This versatile herb also attracts beneficial pollinators, such as bees, to your garden and can be grown both as a microgreen or a mature herb.

Plant Type: Perennial herb, ideal for sunny, dry spots.

Plant Height: Grows up to 45 cm when fully mature.

Sow When:

  • Temperate: Spring and Summer (after frost)
  • Subtropical: Spring and Summer
  • Tropical: All year round
  • Arid: Spring and Summer
  • Cool: Spring and Summer (after frost)

Germination: Seeds germinate best when soil temperatures are between 18°C and 21°C. Germination can take up to 3 weeks.

Depth: Sow seeds approximately 0.5 cm deep in the soil.

Position: Thrives in full sun with well-drained soil. Sage prefers hot, dry conditions and should not be overwatered.

Sow Where: Directly into garden beds or containers.

Soil Type: Prefers light, well-drained soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5.

Spacing: Space plants approximately 50 cm apart for proper growth.

Harvest (Herb): Leaves can be harvested 60 – 90 days after sowing. Regular harvesting encourages more growth and a bushier plant.

Growing Instructions (Microgreens)

  • Do not pre-soak seeds.
  • Use approximately 10 grams of seeds for a 30 x 35 cm growing tray.
  • Add 2 – 3 cm of soil to the tray. Flatten soil and moisten before sowing.
  • Sprinkle seeds evenly over the soil surface and lightly water.
  • Cover seeds with a growing tray and store in a well-ventilated, dark spot.
  • Water 1 – 2 times daily during germination. Germination time is 14 – 21 days.
