CUCUMBER ‘Boothby’s Blonde’ Seeds

Botanical Name: Cucumis sativus

Boothby’s Blonde is a USA heirloom that is highly productive and has been recognized by the Slow Food Ark of Taste as in need of preservation. The cucumbers are oval, with a creamy white skin ripening to golden with an excellent crisp, sweet flavor with no need to peel. It is best eaten at 10cm long. It copes well with hot, humid weather and appears resistant to powdery mildew.

Plant Height: 25 cm; 1.8 m high on a trellis

Sow When:

  • Temperate Subtropical: Late September – December
  • Tropical: Spring to summer (April – August)

Germination:

  • 4 – 12 days
  • Depth: 5 – 10 mm deep

Position: Full sun; requires bee pollination

Sow Where: Sow direct in the garden bed

Soil Type: Fertile, well-drained, pH 5.5 – 7

Trellis Details:

  • Sow 3 – 4 seeds then thin to the strongest seedling at 2-leaf stage
  • On hills spaced at 60 – 80 cm with rows at 1.5m
