Botanical Name: Oenothera biennis

Evening Primrose, scientifically known as Oenothera biennis, is a beautiful biennial herb renowned for its vibrant yellow flowers that bloom in the evening and its historical use in traditional herbal medicine. Rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), Evening Primrose has been valued for its potential skin, hormonal, and anti-inflammatory benefits. Its cheerful blooms also attract nocturnal pollinators, supporting garden biodiversity.

Plant Type: Hardy biennial; adapts well to a variety of climates.

Plant Height: Up to 150 cm

Sow When:

  • Temperate: March – May, September – November

Germination: Best germination occurs at soil temperatures between 18°C and 24°C.

Depth: Sow seeds lightly, approximately 3 mm deep. Light aids germination.

Soil Type: Prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Avoid overly rich soils to prevent legginess.
