BEAN CLIMBING ‘Speckled Cranberry’

Botanical Name: Phaseolus vulgaris

An Italian heirloom that has graced the pages of American cookbooks since 1796, the pods are as stunning as the beans hidden within. Though Speckled Cranberry is not strictly a climbing bean, a teepee structure is needed for support. The young pods can be eaten whole from around 8 weeks, or left to mature, and the succulent shelled beans used fresh at around 11 weeks. Alternatively, they can be left to mature and dry out for long-term storage.
